Basic driver's working time regulations

The daily driving time may not exceed 9 hours. The daily driving time may be extended to a maximum of 10 hours, not more than twice during each week. A week means a period of time between 00.00 on Monday and 24.00 on Sunday.

The weekly driving time may not exceed 56 hours, and the total accumulated driving time during any two consecutive weeks may not exceed 90 hours.

After a driving period of 4.5 hours a driver shall take an uninterrupted break of not less than 45 minutes. This break may be replaced by a break in driving of at least 15 minutes followed by a break of at least 30 minutes.

Within each period of 24 hours from starting driving, the driver is obliged to take an interrupted daily rest period of 11 hours (13 hours of work on that day). Three times during two weekly rest periods, the rest period may be reduced to 9 hours (15 hours of work on that day). The reduction does not entitle the driver to receive compensation. The daily rest period may be divided into 2 parts, with the first of part of at least 3 hours, and the second one of at least 9 hours. This also constitutes a standard daily rest period (12 hours of work on that day). The rest period may be divided every day, there are no limitations in this regard.

During two consecutive weeks, the driver:

  1. must take two regular weekly rest periods (45 consecutive hours) or one regular weekly rest period and one reduced rest period of at least 24 hours. However, such reduction should be compensated with an equal, continuous rest period taken, before the end of the third consecutive week following the given week.
  2. The weekly rest period starts no later than after six 24-hour periods, counting from the end of the previous weekly rest period.
  3.  Teams. 

In the case of double manning, the drivers are obliged to take daily rests of at least 9 hours each within 30 hours from starting driving. Drivers can work for maximum 21 hours and drive for maximum 20 hours (each driver: 10 hours of work under general rules). Drivers in a team of several persons do not have to take 45-minute breaks.
